Quanticon™ Albumin (ALB) Colorimetric Assay Kit

Principle of the Procedure

Albumin is synthesized by liver parenchymal cells and is the most abundant protein in plasma. It has important physiological functions, including maintaining colloid osmotic pressure and binding with long-chain fatty acids, bile acids, bilirubin, heme, calcium and magnesium ions, etc. It possesses antioxidant and anticoagulant properties, can act as a carrier for nutrients and drugs, and also serves as a buffer for plasma pH. The content of serum albumin is directly related to the occurrence and development of liver diseases, kidney diseases, malnutrition or protein-losing enteropathy, and is an important indicator for clinical detection. This kit provides a simple colorimetric method for the determination of albumin content in samples. The principle is that albumin carries a positive charge in a buffer solution at pH 4.2 and can combine with the negatively charged dye bromocresol green to form a blue-green complex, which has an absorption peak at 630nm. Within a certain range, the depth of the color is directly proportional to the albumin concentration.
